Deakin University

Another alternative to a UK university might be an Australian University.

The Australian Government is actively seeking to recruit overseas students to their universities and so have established specialist facilities, staff and teaching methods to help you adjust to a new culture, cope with study commitments and feel comfortable and at home.

Entry Requirements and How to Apply

Students applying for undergraduate courses require the overseas equivalent of an Australian Senior School Certificate. For UK students, this is three passes at GCE A Levels in appropriate subjects. Some courses also have certain pre-requisite subjects. Some courses are more competitive than others, and students are advised to read the university profiles page and contact the university to find out the exact entry requirements for the course in which they are interested.

The Application Process

When you have decided upon an Australian University course, the following steps are involved in the application process.

  • Request information

Contact the international student admissions office at the university and request course information and an application form. Most universities can send this via email, and most course information is available online. Students should allow up to three weeks for this process.

  • Apply

Complete and submit the application form and necessary documents, such as copies of academic results. Many Australian universities provide on-line registration via their Internet site. Application assessment can take up to one month.

  • Offer

If successful, the university will send a letter of offer and "offer pack" with information about fees, enrolment, etc.

  • Accept offer and pay the fees

  • Confirmation of enrolment

Once the offer has been accepted, the university will send a ‘confirmation of enrolment’. Allow up to three weeks for this process.

  • Student visa

The ‘confirmation of enrolment’ is needed in order to apply for a student visa. Read more about the student visa.

The universities department has information on the top ten Australian Universities, and of course you can look online.
